About the Eco Council

Why do we have an Eco Council?

The Eco Council is tasked to:

  • Take the lead in carrying out the Environmental Review, to determine what we need to do to make sure we are an eco aware school.
  • Take the lead in delivering the Eco-Schools Action Plan, which we write after we have carried out our Enviromental Review.
  • Ensure that everyone in the school community is kept involved in our work.
  • Provide a link between pupils, teachers, senior management team, governors and the whole school community by keeping them informed of the work that we do.
What kind of things do we do?

One of the things that we do is organise the Eco Rota, which has on it jobs that we do each week in school, such as collecting the paper for recycling, taking an electricity reading to monitor our energy usage, litter picking in the school grounds and monitoring our water usage. Each class takes turns to do the jobs on the Eco Rota, having responsibilty for it for one week at a time.
In addition to this we are also responsible for boxing up the printer cartridges that are collected in school and sending them off for recycling, and collecting the Morrison's Let's Grow vouchers, using them to order things for school. We also plant things around school each year and look after the planters that we have in the school grounds.
Each year we conduct an Environmental Review of the school, and use this to plan out our work for the year.
Who can be on the Eco Council?

We have one representative from each class in the school (apart from Reception class).
Eco Awards

Etwall Primary School are very proud to have been awarded the Eco-Schools Silver Award for the work that the Eco Council have done in the past few years. Our aim is now to get the Green Award, which will involve a lot of work! The work that we will do over the coming months will be with this award in mind.
Our Eco code is 'Going for Green', in recognition of this goal of ours.
