Little Owls

Due to Book Week we will be doing the spelling test for -le words on Monday 9th March.
Welcome Back!!
 
We have had a wonderful first few days back in Little Owls. We have been busy writing stories, painting, building, threading and adding. Phew!
 
We are excited to welcome Miss Monk to the team and Mr Johnson who will be with us for a few weeks. 
 
We will be sending home new learning journals next week with password and login information for Bug Club, Spelling shed and Maths shed.
 
Our swimming day is Monday afternoon and PE will be Friday afternoon. They will need full kit for both of these lessons. 
 
Please don't hesitate to speak to myself or Miss Monk if you have any questions regarding your child's time at school.
Thursday 19th September
 
We have had an interesting week learning about the events of the Great Fire of London. We have also been using dominoes and cubes to help us count.
Handwriting
We are having a big push on handwriting this year. If you would like to support your child at home with their handwriting please see the link below which has some wonderful games.
Targets
 
You may have  noticed that we have stuck the children's writing targets in their learning journals for your information. If there are any questions regarding terminology please refer to 'appendix 2' on the link below.
Every day is a learning experience at EPS, even when we have a bump on the head!!!
Monday 30th September
 
The children enjoyed learning about fire safety. They learnt how to keep themselves safe when they see fire and how to avoid fire.
Thursday 3rd October
 
We have all really enjoyed using instructions to make a yummy fruit salad.
Wednesday 9th October
 
Thank you to all the parents that were able to make the phonics check workshop. The power point used is attached.

We have been making houses to replicate those that burnt down during the Great Fire of London. The children worked excellently in teams to produce some great work.
Monday 14th October
 
The children really enjoyed seeing all the fire fighting equipment bought in by one of the parents. They asked lots of questions and loved dressing up.
As promised I have attached the powerpoint and handout that we used in the Maths Workshop last night. Thank you to all the parents that were able to make it.

We have had lots of fun learning about shapes. We have been finding shapes, learning about the properties of shape and comparing shapes.
Friday 15th November
 
All the children in EYFS and KS1 had a wonderful time watching a performance of Peter Pan. It was a wonderful performance and a great way of getting to know a classic story.
Polite Reminder
 
Please don't forget to bring in your child's nativity costume as soon as possible (in a named bag). If there are any issues with your child's costume please speak to your child's class teacher as we can then source them elsewhere.

We are all so proud of the children for their hard work on performing a magical Nativity this year. Well done to you all!

Welcome to a new member of the Little Owls- meet Bonnie.
 
To celebrate Christmas we have adopted a donkey from the Donkey Sanctuary. Bonnie is a lovely, cheeky donkey. We are looking forward to finding out about how she gets on over the year through regular updates.

We are lucky enough to be enjoying cricket on a Tuesday morning with a coach. Photos to follow.
Tuesday 21st January
 
The children have been really enjoying learning to play cricket with a cricket coach on a Tuesday morning. They have been practicing their catching and throwing as well as batting. We have some real sports stars in the making!
Thursday 23rd January
 
We have all had great fun learning about how magnets work. We investigated magnets and what things we could find that were magnetic and then the children made magnetic games.
Wednesday 29th January
 
We had a wonderful time on our local walk around Etwall. We found out about the church and gateway, the shops in the village and looked at the difference between the old and new houses. We are so proud of how wonderfully the children behaved and  big thank you to all the adults that were able to help.
Tuesday 4th February
 
The children loved making dens outside as part of their materials topic. The children worked well in teams and talked about the materials they used to make the dens.

It’s Book Week and we are enjoying some story telling of Room on a Broom.

We are having lots of messy fun using paper mache. Can you guess what we are making?
Wednesday 4th March
 
In maths we are learning about capacity. The children have been using lots of mathematical skills such as estimating, sorting and ordering to help them find out about litres and millilitres.
Thursday 5th March- World Book Day
 
What a day (and week) we’ve had. We’ve painted, glued, drawn, written and most importantly enjoyed reading. Below is just a very small sample of work that the children have produced and I am sure you would agree they have done a magnificent job.
 
It was such fun greeting Harry Potters, the ugly duckling, Paddington, Wally, Mary Poppins, a number of Princesses, Horrid Henry and friends, unicorns, Winnie, a ladybird,Goldilocks, Emily Pankhurst, Ronon and some footballers not to mention some very cozy pyjama wearing children.
