Robins 2014-15

Welcome to Robins Class Page!
19th June 2015 - Languages Day
Robins (and their toys!) had a great time learning French on Languages Day. We began by learning a little bit about France. Then we took our toys outside for a French picnic. We tried la baguette, le fromage, le melon, le croissant and le chocolat and we learnt how to say 'J'aime' - I like or 'Je n'aime pas' - I did not like. I bet you can guess which was the most popular! That's right no one said 'Je n'aime pas le chocolat'! After the picnic we spent the rest of the day doing lots of exciting things! We made a French flag and practised saying bleu, blanc, and rouge. In the reading corner we had some well known stories written in French. At the dough table we made French food and used our new french to tell our friends what we had made. We practised writing in french and we learnt a French song ready for our whole school assembly at the end of the day.  The children were fabulous and surprisingly good at French! Well done Robins!

Thank you to Madamoiselle Emily and Madamoiselle Liz for planning such a super day! Thanks also to Mrs Warburton and the staff at Derby University for organising the day for us. We can't wait until next year!

Our Conkers Trip 5th June 2015

We had a fun packed day at Conkers! We were very lucky as the weather was fabulous!

First we travelled along the 'Sensory Trail' through the forest. We had to put our hands in boxes and describe what we could feel. Then we explored the magical 'Fairy Labrynth' it was great fun. Next we visited the exibits at the 'Discovery Centre'. I think the darkness of the 'Tree Top Walk' proved to be our favourite, although the bats did make a few of us jump!

After a fun packed morning we were all very hungry so we boarded the 'Conkerchoo train' and travelled to Waterside where we sat in the covered amphitheatre for lunch and then we visited the adventure play area.

In the afternoon we met up with our Conkers  Ranger who took us on a minibeast and habitats hunt through the forest. We saw minibeast homes and two rare baby newts! We saw an owls nesting box and a large Black Poplar tree that had been hollowed out by the rain and was now home to hedgehogs! We also had great fun looking for pond life as we crossed the 'Wobbly Bridge'.

Finally exhausted but happy we boarded the 'Conkerchoo' back to the 'Discovery Centre' to catch our bus back to school.

Thank you so much to our parent volunteers who not only made our trip possible but also helped make the day a memorable one!

Take a look at the photographs of our adventures.
Well Dressing - 13th May 2015
Robins have made their contribution to the Etwall well dressings weekend today. We pricked out our design into the clay and then gathered natural materials from around the school. We enjoyed pressing them into the clay to make our picture. Can you tell what it is? Come and visit the wells this weekend and see all the beautiful designs.

Robins Watch The Solar Eclipse Live
20th March 2015

The Robins had a very exciting morning! At 9:15 we went outside to watch the solar eclipse. Armed with our pinhole projectors and a digestive biscuit we sat together to observe the beginning of the eclipse. We tried really hard to carefully bite our biscuits to show how much of the sun was hidded, although some of us forgot and ate it! :) As the sun began to reach totality we headed back inside to watch it live on BBC1. It was very exciting as we sat in the dark together. When the moon completely covered the sun we all cheered.

Did you know that sound can travel through string?

We made our own telephones to find out if we could hear our partner's voice.
7th January 2015
We are reading the story called Traction Man" by Mini Grey. A little boy lets his imagination run away with him as Traction Man patrols the house saving toys, searches for lost wrecks and rescues damsels in distress. We had our own special mission of searching through messy tubs filled with soapy water and describing all the "creatures" we found. Just like Traction Man! We found the evil cloth and the naughty noodles!
