Welcome to Woodpeckers Class. Mrs Toynbee, Mrs Robinson and Mrs Draper and the children are looking forward to an exciting year.

Monday 9th July
The fire service visited Woodpeckers today and the children were told what to do if there was a fire and then explored the fire engine. We even squirted water.
Friday 19th June. Vendredi le 19 juin.
Aujourd'hui, la classe de "Woodpeckers" ont participé à une journée des langues. Ils apprenaient le français avec des enseigneurs de l'université de Derby. Les enfants ont appris à dire "bonjour", "au revoir" et les couleurs de l'arc-en-ciel. Dans la réunion des élèves, les enfants ont chanté la chanson des Couleurs de l'Arc-en-Ciel, en français et en anglais. Les enfants ont beaucoup aimé la journée.
Today Woodpeckers have taken part in Languages Day. They have been learning French with teachers from Derby University. The children learned how to say "good morning", "goodbye" and the colours of the rainbow. In assembly, the children sang the Colours of the Rainbow song in French and English. The children enjoyed the day.
Tuesday 9th June.
Today the children pretended to be different minibeasts and go on a bare foot walk to feel different textures. The children used lots of describing words to explain what it felt like.
Monday 8th June.
Sports Morning.
Well the sun shone for Woodpeckers first sports morning. The children took part andd enjoyed all the activities. Everyone tried their best and cheered their friends on.
Friday 5th June.
We spent the day at Conkers learning about minibeasts. We had such fun. The children found lots of snails, slugs , ants and much more. We even spotted a newt thanks to Daisy. The children loved the train and play park, and we were starving. So the packed lunches were enjoyed. A big thank you to the parent helpers who made the trip go smoothly. Look at the photos of the day and ask the children which bit they enjoyed the most.
Thursday 4th June.
Today Woodpeckers had a special visit from Kestrels class. The children have been writing their own version of the Magic Porridge Pot and wanted to read their stories to Woodpeckers. All the children enjoyed sharing the story.
Wednesday 3rd June.
We have been observing snails in Woodpeckers and drawing pictures of what we can see. The children have been facinated by them and also very worried that they would escape. Ask your child about what a snail looks like.
Monday 18th May.
Today we have finished our printing topic by creating our own block prints using clay and tools. Watch out for our prints coming home.
Friday 15th May.
It was ACES afternoon toady and Woodpeckers took part in lots of physical activity with enthusiasm. Ask your child which was their favourite!
Friday 24th April
Woodpeckers have been making the most of the good weather and have taken part in a PE lesson outside. Today we have been learning about throwing underarm and catching the ball. There are some future cricketers among us.
Wednesday 15th April.
Today we have started our RE topic about why our world is special? The children have thought about what is special about nature. Then outside the children have used lots of natural materials gathered from around our school to create pictures. Some were big some were small and one was tny. We talked about what was beautiful and how they felt when we touched the natural materials. It was lots of fun in the sunshine.

Monday 13th April.
Welcome back after the Easter holidays. We hope you all had lots of fun and enjoyed the sunshine.
Let's hope we have lots of fine weather this term. Don't forget your hats!
Friday 27th March.
To start our Easter activities we joined in with a science activity with the whole school and investigated which wrappers are the best to cover an egg. We worked in mixed age groups and had a great time.

The children have learnt all about 2D and 3D shapes and have enjoyed creating their own shapes on the geo boards.
Friday 13th March.
This week we have been thinking about the story the Pig in the Pond. The children have enjoyed how the pig went splash. We made links to the story of Mrs Wishy-Washy too.

This afternoon we took part in football training and were taught lots of football skills. We even played matches.

This week we have been celebrating book week and enjoyed lots of stories from around the world. We dressed up as characters from our favourite books. Guess which books we have enjoyed?
Also we have been visited by an author Michael Cox who read a story based upon Little Red Riding Hood. It was very funny. Then we became authors ourselves and wrote our own story.

This week we have read the book Mrs Wishy Washy and we have acted out the story.
Tuesday 17th February.
Today we have read Mr Wolf's Panckes then we all ate pancakes!
Thursday 5th February.
Today the children took part in their first class assembly. It was based on the book Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. The children spoke and sung with enthusiasm and loudly. They really enjoyed it as did the audience. We are so proud of their achievements.
Wednesday 28th January.
This week in Woodpeckers we have been learning how to add 1 more to a group of objects and learning our number bonds to 5.
13th January 2015
Woodpeckers went to the school library today and withdrew their first library book. Lots of talking about which story to take out!
Library Day is every Tuesday.

Woodpeckers had a very exciting last week at school with a party and a special visitor.
Monday 17th November.
Woodpeckers walked to St. Helen's Church and looked at the World War One displays. They were very interested and asked lots of questions.

Anti- Bullying Week
In Woodpeckers we have been thinking about how it is important to be a good friend. We made a promise to always be a good friend.
