School Day
🕒 The School Day at Etwall Primary
At Etwall Primary, we aim to provide a calm, welcoming and well-organised school day so that children feel happy, settled and ready to learn.
📅 Our School Week
The compulsory school day for pupils in Years 1 to 6 runs from 8:50am until 3:20pm, Monday to Friday.
This provides a total school week of:
32 hours and 30 minutes
This includes teaching time, assemblies, morning and afternoon breaks and lunchtime.
Our gates open from 8:40am, giving children time to come onto the school site and be ready for the start of the school day at 8:50am.
Children in our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) finish at 3:15pm.
🌅 Start of the Day
⏰ Gates open: 8:40am
⏰ School day begins: 8:50am
Children should arrive between these times so that they are settled and ready to begin the school day promptly at 8:50am.
📌 If your child arrives after 8:50am:
- They will need to enter school via the main office.
We encourage all children to arrive on time so that they can settle quickly and take part fully in morning learning.
📚 During the School Day
Our school day is carefully planned to provide a balance of:
- ✏️ High-quality learning across the curriculum
- 📖 Reading and phonics (especially in EYFS and KS1)
- 🎨 Creative activities and wider opportunities
- 🏃 Active play and physical development
Children are supported to develop as confident, curious and independent learners, in line with our whole-school vision.
🍎 Lunchtime
⏰ EYFS lunchtime: 11:45am – 12:45pm
Children can:
- Enjoy a school meal
- Or bring a healthy packed lunch
✅ All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to Universal Free School Meals
🍏 EYFS and KS1 children are also provided with:
- Daily fruit
- Milk (for under 5s only)
🍏 Health and Safety
We are a nut-aware school due to severe allergies among some pupils, so we ask families to be mindful of this when preparing packed lunches.
If your child has any allergies or specific dietary needs, please let us know so we can support them fully.
🌇 End of the Day
⏰ EYFS finish time: 3:15pm
⏰ Year 1–6 finish time: 3:20pm
👋 Collection Arrangements
Each class has its own designated collection point.
To help ensure a smooth and safe collection:
- 👀 Try to stand in a similar place each day
- 👋 When your child is approaching, give the teacher a wave so they can spot you quickly
This helps the end of the day run safely and efficiently for everyone.
🌟 Before and After School Care
For families who need additional support, we work closely with Active Bodies, who provide wraparound care on site.
⏰ Opening hours: 7:30am – 5:30pm
This allows flexibility for families needing a longer school day.
