At Etwall Primary School, we want every child to enjoy being active and to develop positive attitudes towards physical activity that will stay with them as they grow.
The Primary PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding which we use to strengthen PE, sport and physical activity across our school.
Our aim is simple: to give every child opportunities to participate, develop their skills, try something new and experience the enjoyment that comes from being active.
We use our PE and Sport Premium to:
Support staff to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence so that our children experience high-quality PE lessons.
Provide opportunities for children to be physically active during the school day and beyond it.
Give children opportunities to represent our school in competitions, festivals and sporting events.
Introduce children to a wide range of sports and physical activities, including experiences they may not otherwise encounter.
Monitor participation and create opportunities to help children from across our school take part, including disadvantaged pupils.
These priorities reflect the provision and planned use of funding set out in our PE and Sport Premium report.

Our PE and Sport Premium report records 28 inter-school competitions, with 199 pupils, equivalent to 67%, representing the school. It also records taster activities reaching 100% of pupils and an increase from one after-school club in 2023/24 to four each week in 2025/26.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm our children show for PE, sport and physical activity.
Children have had opportunities to represent Etwall in a wide range of competitions, including football, netball, athletics, triathlon and cross-country.
We have lots to celebrate, including:
🏃 Cross-country
Children progressed to the county finals.
⚽ Football

🏅 KS1 Athletics
Our children won their tournament.
🎉 Sports Week
Every child across school had the opportunity to get involved in a range of sporting activities.
Sport at Etwall is about much more than traditional PE lessons.
We want children to discover activities they enjoy and to experience different ways of being active.
Opportunities have included:
🥋 Martial arts
🥌 Curling
🏸 Badminton
💃 Dance
🌲 Forest School
🏃 Daily Mile
🚲 Bikeability and balance activities
Our report records taster and enrichment activities including badminton, martial arts and curling, alongside Forest School, Street Dance and cycling activities.
We want every child to feel that sport and physical activity are for them.
We monitor participation so that we can identify children who have not yet had opportunities to represent the school and give particular consideration to disadvantaged pupils. Activities are offered both during the school day and after school to help more children take part.
Our report records 20 different Pupil Premium children accessing targeted opportunities and identifies positive evidence gathered through pupil voice, photographs and conversations with parents.
Swimming is an important part of our PE provision.
Children in Years 3 and 4 receive weekly swimming lessons.
| National Curriculum swimming outcome | Our pupils |
|---|---|
| 🏊 Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over at least 25 metres | 92% |
| 🏊 Use a range of strokes effectively | 90% |
| 🛟 Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations | 84% |
These are the three swimming outcomes recorded in our PE and Sport Premium report.
We use our PE and Sport Premium carefully to strengthen opportunities for children now and to create improvements that can be sustained for children in future years.
Our work includes:
🏀 Equipment and resources
👩🏫 Staff development and high-quality PE

The current Department for Education guidance states that the PE and Sport Premium should be used to make additional and sustainable improvements to PE, sport and physical activity and to support children to live healthy, active lives and participate in PE and school sport.
We regularly review our PE, sport and physical activity provision and the impact of the funding we receive.
You can read more about how we use the funding, our priorities and the impact on our children in our full PE and Sport Premium report.
