At Etwall Primary School, there are many opportunities for children to gain cultural capital in Mathematics.  Making connections in their learning is crucial in developing procedural knowledge; from learning to tell the time; baking, weighing and measuring; orienteering skills; to taking part in various clubs such as Lego Club, Gardening Club, Imagineering and Fantasy Football Club.

Throughout the year, the children have various opportunities to develop their mathematical skills.  For example, the children enjoy our Puzzle Day comprising of problem solving activities, participate in the NSPCC Number Day as well as take part in a number of Times Tables Rockstar competitions to further develop their times tables knowledge.  In addition, greater depth children take part in the First Primary Challenge (for children aged 7 - 9) and the Primary Maths Challenge (for children aged 9 - 11).  On World Maths Day, all children took part in an assembly that celebrated famous mathematicians past and present.

IN EYFS children have a vast array of opportunities to develop their mathematical knowledge;  from making pancakes to learn about fractions; becoming shape detectives; using sweets to develop children's understanding of sharing as well as painting and printing.  Children in EYFS and KS1 take part in the Mastering Numbers programme using Rekenrek.

The impact of our curriculum can partly be seen in the wonderful photos of our work below.
