Swimming Pool Update

We’d like to share an update about the former school swimming pool building:

Pool status

The swimming pool remains closed. Required repairs are not affordable, and current school budget constraints do not allow for continued operation. The school is not planning to re-open the pool in the immediate future.

Funding outcome

Our application for capital-based funding to convert the building into a nursery was unsuccessful in this round. We have been advised to reapply later in 2026, when we may better meet the criteria.

Long-term future:
The long-term future is undecided. Ownership remains with Derbyshire County Council, not Etwall Primary School. The school is committed to making best use of the building in the future but has no current plans for its use.  Governors will continue to review options as they arise.

We will continue to keep our community informed via website updates and parent emails as soon as there is any change.

FAQ
  • Why can’t the pool re-open now?
The essential repairs are significantly beyond what the school budget can support, and operating costs would not be sustainable.

  • What happens next?
We will follow the advised route to reapply for capital funding later in 2026 and will share any developments promptly.

  • Who owns the building?
Derbyshire County Council retains ownership; the school does not own the pool building.

  • How will we be kept informed?
We will update parents by email and post news on the school website whenever there is new information.
